Artist Linens by Michele Rondelli Panama is inspired by the Mola or Molas, a handmade textile that is part of the traditional Kuna women's clothing of Panama. They are handcrafted using reverse applique technique. Several layers (usually two to seven) of different colored fabrics (usually cotton) are sewn together. The design is then formed by cutting away portions of each layer. Molas have their origins in body painting. "Panama" is part of Rondelli's "worldseries" art project to create modern design inspired by ancient techniques and textiles from around the world.
